3rd grade - Kehinde Wiley Portraits
For this project, 3rd graders took a look at the outstanding work of contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley and held a great conversation about his work and his message. Students then updated other famous and historical portraits themselves in their paintings. They could choose from one of four portraits I provided for them, Grant Wood's "American Gothic," Edgar Degas' "Ballet Dancers on the Stage," Edouard Manet's "Boy with Cherries," or Mary Cassatt's "The Boating Party." The new interpretations were very interesting and often very different from each other too. Excellent work, 3rd graders!
