Kindergarten - Dancing Giraffes

Kindergarten had tons of fun dancing with their giraffes.  First, we read Giraffes Can't Dance and paid close attention to the types of lines the artist used to make it look like the animals were dancing.  Then we learned a  new painting technique for the background before drawing a giraffe with curvy, wavy, and diagonal lines so that it looked like it was dancing.  Once we cut the giraffes out we glued them onto the background and that was that!  We had such a nice selection of very different looking giraffes.  The kindergartners did an outstanding job!

Special thanks to the awesome thomaselementaryart.blogspot.com for the inspiration.

1st Grade - Wild Things

First graders really got in touch with their wild sides with this project.  First, we read Where the Wild Things Are, and had a really good discussion about what makes Max wild.  Then we talked about what the wild things might do and look like inside each of us.  After a quick planning session, first graders made a collage of their wild things.  Have a look!
