2nd Grade - Cliff Returns!

Hey remember Cliff?  Everyone's favorite non-famous-Mr. Schmidt-original-big-nosed cartoon character?  He's back and better than ever with this second grade project.  Simple enough, our goal is to give Cliff something to do, so we need to think creatively and come up with something we don't think he's ever done before.  I really enjoy this project because the final products always end up so unique even after the few years.  I teach them how to draw Cliff's head step by step.  They take over with the rest.

2nd Grade - Cliff is Back

Earlier this year, I invented a cartoon character named Cliff.  I introduced Cliff to my second graders for this project, and taught them step-by-step how to draw him.  The goal was to give Cliff something unique to do, since he doesn't like to the same thing twice.  I really like this project because the kids do such a nice job drawing Cliff and come up with some of the strangest, random, and spectacular ideas you can imagine.  Here are a few examples:

2nd Grade - Cartooning Cliff

I've sort of made it an unofficial goal to include some more of my own artistic interests into my lessons this year (I wrote and illustrated this book, and we did a different cartooning project with fourth grade earlier).  Our final second grade project of the school year introduced students to a cartoon character I've invented named Cliff.  Cliff likes to do all sorts of different things, but he doesn't really like to do the same thing twice.  So we worked hard to think of something unique for Cliff to do.  For the lesson, I gave the second graders a step-by-step on how to draw his head, then it was up to them to give him an activity and fill in the background.

Before you take a look at all the new and cool ideas for Cliff from the second graders, make sure you follow him on Instagram.
