1st Grade - Connect the Dots

Get ready; this is a long post with lots of stuff in it.  Be sure to check out all the pictures and especially watch the videos at the end!

1st graders did such an amazing job with this quick little project.  I'm so proud of each and every one of them.  The process is pretty simple.  First, we defined "random" and "meaningful," then drew 20 dots randomly on a piece of paper and connected them to make some sort of bizarre shape.  The 1st graders then had to turn that shape into something.  Cool, huh?

The kids took this idea and ran with it.  As I walked around the room I heard how excited the kids were about their ideas and so many of them wanted to share that I thought it would be a crime to keep their stories to myself.  Here are a few pictures of the process before we see some finished products.  I'll follow with a few videos at the end.
