5th Grade - Shrunken Heads
This is a project that has undergone a number of changes over the years, but it works. We don't have a lot of room for the storage of 3D artwork in my art rooms, so any chance we get to break away from the flat stuff is greeted with enthusiasm from the students. We start with a balloon taped to a cardstock "neck" and cover it in paper mache, then the 5th graders are free to paint it however they please. I always like how different the ideas are and continue to marvel at how unique each project turns out.
