The second graders mastered a pretty advanced transfer technique and added to their math vocabulary with this project. It's a tough process that takes more than a few weeks, but the juice is worth the squeeze. The first day I explain the transfer process, and we start by drawing half of a face on a half sheet of printer paper with Sharpie marker. The next class we finish scribbling on the back of the half sheet and begin to transfer it onto a larger piece of paper. After that, we flip the half sheet over and do the other side of the face, then trace the entire thing in Sharpie again so that it's easier to see. The next couple of classes are spent finishing the faces with symmetrical coloring. Take a look at some of these fantastic examples.
