1st Grade - Positive and Negative Space

Positive and negative space can be a difficult concept to wrap your brain around, but these first graders did a great job.  Basically, positive space is the subject of the artwork, and negative space is all the stuff in the background and in between spaces.  Our assignment for this one was to draw seven medium-sized shapes around the page, then fill in the negative space with some lines and patterns to color. 

Kindergarten - Roll a Monster

More monster projects!  This time, each kindergartner was given a die in a little cup with a clear lid on it.  The kindergartners would roll the dice and give their monster an eye, a nose, a mouth, a tooth, a horn, or a detail of their choice depending on what number popped up.  Some monsters came out with a bunch of mouths or too many noses, but they all came out differently, and the kids had a blast figuring out where to put their next feature.  Once they thought their monsters were finished, they gave them some color before calling it a day.  Take a look at the hilarious and unexpected results!

5th Grade - Mugs

The mugs have been a big success.  Fifth graders combined a few different ceramic techniques to make them before bringing them to life with some color.  I always like seeing how different these projects turn out when they start so similarly.  Take a look at some outstanding examples.

2nd Grade - Clay Portraits

2nd graders have done a couple of portrait projects so far this year, but this time we took it to a new level by working with clay.  The process was simple:  we just added details to a slab of clay, then gave it some color.  Check out some of these awesome examples!
