5th Grade - Shrunken Heads

5th graders had a lot of fun making paper mache shrunken heads for this project.  First, each student got a small balloon around the size of a grapefruit which they covered in paper mache.  It was then up to each student to decide what they wanted their shrunken head to be.  The 5th graders provided a TON of variety with what they came up with.  Here are only a few of the awesome examples.

5th Grade - Zentangle Portraits

5th graders got a taste of a new form of art called Zentangle.  For this project, I traced each student's silhouette onto a piece of paper, which they then filled in with different patterns and designs that in some way described them or shared their interests.  The finished products look nice, but the best part for me was that it gave me a chance to get to know the 5th graders.  It was awesome to see how many of us had so much in common.

4th Grade - Superhero Masks

4th graders made up their own superhero (or super villain), and created a paper mache mask for it.  Each superhero had to have a name, a superpower, a weakness, and an origin story.  Paper mache is always a popular project, and the 4th graders had a lot of fun coming up with everything involved with their own superhero.  It was cool to see some students working with classmates to create the villain to someone else's hero, or to see some students whose superheros worked as partners.  Great job, 4th graders!
